Description
Matt Garrison is an American solo jazz bassist, known for his technical gift amongst jazz musicians. To create his music, his usual bass is a 5-string not with a low B-string, but with a high C on top. This 2013 Fodera Matt Garrison Standard was released to make this signature bass more affordable, and it turns out that it is still quite “elite” after all. We believe that this might be the only “Standard” Fodera model that features an Imperial design and neck through construction. It features 33″ scale length, 5-stringer with High C, original hipshot extender on the E-string for extra range. It has a Madrone Burl body top, matching headstock top, walnut body, alder tone block, 3-piece hardrock maple neck, Madagascar Kingwood fingerboard with 26-frets. It has a finger ramp between the two pickups. The space between the neck pickup and the end of fingerboard is too tight for slap/pop playing. This bass is designed to play chords, tapping, multi-finger style, palm muting, you name it, any style but slap. Slap/pop can still be achieved with practice, but, just buy another bass from us.
It is worthwhile to mention that Fodera basses have a tone knob that works in both active and passive mode. We are not sure why this wiring is not adopted with more basses (Alleva Coppolo, Sadowsky, Roscoe, Le Fay, Freedom C.G.R. basses have this same feature, to our knowledge, and perhaps there are more out there), as it adds versatility to the tone by many miles. Many other basses have passive mode without a tone control; and for those that does have a tone control knob, it doesn’t work in active mode. We understand that treble-cut can be regarded as tone roll off, but really, it’s not the same.
This used bass is in Excellent+ condition. Slight nicks and fine cleaning scratches can be found but only when examined closely. Slight brass showing at corners of the black bridge. Frets remain above 80%; truss rod works without issue in both directions; electronics are all good. All specifications are listed in the Additional Information tab above.
