Description
Le Fay is an instrument manufacturer from Germany. They specialise in producing high quality hand-made bass guitars, and they are the winner of the German Instrument Award in 2017. Notable users of Le Fay include Charles Berthoud, a talented bass player and YouTuber, who uses a D-tuned 4-String in his videos. The Singer 4-string Set Neck that we have here at Bella Romeo is a higher-end model that Le Fay offers. It features a figured maple top and sapeli mahogany, which the maple top gives the bass stunning aesthetics and the mahogany provides a warm tonal profile. It comes with a 24-fret rosewood fretboard with stainless steel frets, and a hard maple neck. The rosewood gives a woody and rounded tone, and the maple neck gives it a bit of punchiness. For electronics, it has 4 single coils pickups in two groups, configured in the bridge and middle position, and a pre-amp. All the electronics are made by Le Fay, and they come with plenty of controls to give the bass a lot of versatility.
It is worthwhile to mention that Le Fay basses have a tone knob that works in both active and passive mode. We are not sure why this wiring is not adopted with more basses (Alleva Coppolo, Sadowsky, Le Fay, F Bass basses have this same feature, to our knowledge, and perhaps there are more out there), as it adds versatility to the tone by many miles. Many other basses have passive mode without a tone control; and for those that does have a tone control knob, it doesn’t work in active mode. We understand that treble-cut can be regarded as tone roll off, but really, it’s not the same.
This bass guitar is used and it is Mint- condition. The top of the body is in near perfect condition, with only few very minor scratches which are not noticeable unless examined closely. The sides and back are also very well preserved, and there are only one or two very minor nicks near the input jack and the strap pin. The fretboard and neck are in perfect condition with no nicks and scratches. The frets are tall, with 90% remaining. The paint on the tuner has decayed slightly. There are no nicks and scratches on the headstock. All of the electronics and hardware are working flawlessly, and the truss rod works in both direction.
The bass comes with a generic gig bag.
