Description
The Gibson SG Standard Bass is a rebuild of the classic Gibson EB-3 basses used from 1953 into the mid 1960’s, particularly by Jack Bruce in Cream.
Gibson introduced their first electric bass in 1953, the violin-shaped Gibson Electric Bass as a response to Fender’s ground-breaking 1951 Precision Bass. This model was built from 1953 to 1972 and gained the name ‘EB-1’ after the semi-hollow EB-2 appeared in 1958; this version was based on the revolutionary ES-335 series. Next was the EB-0, introduced in 1959 with a Mahogany slab body based on the double-cutaway Les Paul Junior. In 1961, things changed with the adoption of what’s now known as the ‘SG’ body, given to the EB-0 and the new EB-3 which had two humbucking pickups. All of the EB models were discontinued by 1979.
Here looking at a Gibson SG Standard Bass in Heritage Cherry, built during 2018 in Nashville and with a 30.5 inch scale length. It’s in Excellent Plus Condition with very minimal usage wear. The original Gibson branded hard shell case is included. Babicz FCH 3-point bridge is an excellent differentiation from EB-3. Unlike the EB-3 that it’s based on, the electronics are simplified; the original four-position Varitone switch with its large choke is no longer used. Instead there are two volume controls and one master volume.
This bass is used and is in Excellent Plus Condition with very minimal usage wear.
