Description
The GWB1 is a five string, fretless, solid body electric bass model introduced by Ibanez for 1999. It is a signature model for American jazz fusion bassist Gary Willis. It was made in Japan, and is Gary Willis’ first version signature bass with Ibanez.
The GWB1 features a Soundgear series double-cutaway lightweight swamp ash body bolted to a laminated maple neck with a fretless ebony fingerboard with small white dot position markers. Components include a custom Bartolini passive soapbar bass pickup wired to a Bartolini preamp with a two-band EQ, a standard bridge with 16.5mm string spacing, a removable finger rest/ramp, a graphite nut and Gotoh tuners with custom Sure Grip buttons.
The bass produces a wide range of tones from rich deep bass, to a gnarly growl, and to a scooped sound with plenty of brightness. Of course, add a bit of reverb that high register soloing is second to none. Our store has had GWB-1005 as well, which is the still in-production model. The GWB1 sounds and feels identical.
This bass is used and is in Excellent Plus Condition. There are slight signs of usage such as light marks, but overall there is no major ding to mention. The fretboard is also in very good condition; there are signs of use under the strings as expected. The bass comes with its original hardshell case, setup tools, and more important, the finger ramp that hasn’t ever been installed onto the bass.
