Description
The Victory MV-X was Gibson’s short effort to try to change its image as an old-school guitar manufacturer. While it didn’t exactly succeed commercially when released, the Victory MV-X is still a great guitar for playing, and certainly a long run winner for players and collectors after 40 years. It features an Eastern Hard Rock Maple body, a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with a 3-piece maple set neck. It comes with two Magna plus humbuckers in the bridge and neck, and the super stacked humbucker in the middle. While the middle pickup may look like a single coil pickup, it is actually a humbucker, but it can also be spilt coiled to single coil mode, which gives this guitar a lot of versatility.
This guitar is used and it is in fair condition. There are numerous dings and visible scratches on the top, back and sides of the body, as well as around the headstock. These wears may not show up well in photos. The neck and fretboard are in fair condition, as there are also some dings and scratches on the neck, some wear on the fretboard and visible stain-wear on the binding of the neck. Overall, the neck is still smooth to play; you can feel the finish wears, but nothing significant that would hinder playability. The previous owner revealed that this guitar had been quite active in recording sessions in Hong Kong throughout the years. We view that the overall aging of this guitar is honest and quite pleasing aesthetically, and the build quality is very strong – we feel that it is ready to take more playing for the next 40 years. The frets are in good condition as there are slight corrosion on the frets, and they have plenty of life. The electronics and hardware are working properly and have no issues, and the neck pickup has a yellowish tint due to aging. The truss rod works in both directions. For all technical specifications, please see additional information tab above. If you are looking for a Gibson guitar that is not only rare, but also sounds and plays great then this is the guitar for you!
