Description
Bella Romeo presents this Fender Custom Shop 60s Jazz Bass, in black nitro relic finish, produced in 2013. It is modelled to replicate the first version of Jazz basses between 1960 and 1962, where the most notable change being the two stacked knobs pre-1962 that became two pickup volume knobs and only one tone knob that remain to be the standard JB configuration up to today. There are pros and cons for the pre-1962 stacked knobs versus the current config, in our view: Pros: more precise sculpting the tone with separate tone control for each pickup, reinforced by indented knob positions so that the desired tones can be more easily replicated. Since tone control is separate the two pickups, technically this means there are certain tones available for pre-1962 Jazz basses that cannot be achieved by post-1962). If you have played a Rickenbacker 4001/4003, you would understand having separate tone controls for each pickup is really nice. Cons: slower operation to change tone of the entire bass during performance (i.e. the post-1962 single tone knob controls both pickups, and is continuous without indentation). Other than the controls, this model respects most the core specifications within the 1960-1962 era. It features slab laminated Indian rosewood fingerboard (instead of Brazilian rosewood that would make it era-correct but comes without CITES export headaches) and micarta white dot inlay (instead of era-correct clay dot inlay). We have strung this bass with LaBella Deep Talkin’ flats to enhance era-specific authenticity, and the originally-strung Fender roundwounds are included in the case. The tone is very versatile ranging from double-bass like with muting/thumb style, to a slightly scooped tone with tone fully open and two pickup volume at max. This bass is used and is in Mint condition. There is no noticeable wear done to the bass beyond the intended relic finish. The neck is smooth to play, frets virtually new, and the truss rod can be adjusted in both directions. The action is set slightly higher than the typical jazz bass, since with flats we don’t expect slap style would be prominent. The current string height is still easy to play, whilst avoiding unnecessary clanking sound caused by the strings hitting some frets. The bass comes with its original deluxe hardshell case, candies, COA, copy of the Floor Traveller, and original roundwound strings within. The original pickup plate covers are removed and also included inside the case along with original screws. All specifications are listed in the Additional Information tab above.
